Abstract

The notion of beauty recurs numerous times and with different shades of
meaning in the Enneads and, above all, it assumes a central role in the Plotinian thought.
Plotinus, in fact, uses it to describe the different levels of the reality of his metaphysical
system, in particular of the Intellect. In this sense, the notion of beauty seems to be closely
connected to that of life, which is the main aspect of the intelligible reality. This
contribution wants to show the role that the notion of life plays in the creation of the
Plotinian notion of beauty.
