Abstract

In 1960 Karl Löwith publishes the Gesammelte Abhandlungen: zur Kritik der geschichtlichen Existenz, a multiform work that consists of several previously published contributions. Starting from the analysis of the word Welt in this work, it will be identified the fundamental issues addressed by the philosophy of Karl Löwith following the common thread that binds his writings and focusing the programmatic direction towards which his philosophy tends. From the analysis three fundamental meanings related to the word Welt will emerge: in reference to history, anthropology and nature. Getting into the details of these three meanings will show how the concept of ‘world in general’ for the philosopher is inextricably linked to that of the world of nature and how other meanings depend on it.
