The Covid-19 emergency has clearly shown how educational innovation is no longer a postponable challenge nor is an exclusively methodological or organizational issue, since it must take into account all the societal changes which influence educational institutions. Digital technologies indeed modify the way knowledge is acquired in both scientific and humanistic disciplines. Moreover, the use of distance learning during the Covid-19 emergency has highlighted how the use of digital technologies requires innovative teaching approaches different from the mere virtual transposition of ex cathedra transmissive lectures. Even if, framing innovative teaching activities and methodologies in fixed categories is not possible, considering the great variety of practices into which they can be declined, its is possible to outline some of their general characteristics. This papers briefly describe them and reports two recent initiatives as examples.
