Abstract

This note focuses on the pair ἀστήρ and ἄστρον. It presents their etymology, technical meaning and mutual relationship. The use of these terms to name planets, fixed stars, meteors, comets is also examined: here the lexical analysis helps to understand the specificities of ancient Greek and Latin conceptions of astronomy.
